Welcome to Tutor! This guide is for students — everything you need to find a lesson, pick a tutor, book a lesson time, pay, and manage your bookings. No technical knowledge is required. Every screen described here is part of the live application.

Browsing & Booking a Lesson

The storefront

The public site lives at /. From the homepage you can explore lessons, tutors, blog posts, and more.

  • Lesson catalogue (/listings) — browse all lessons with search and filters (subject, level, lesson type, price, location). Each lesson card shows the cover image, title, tutor, rating and reviews, and price per session. Grid and list views are available, and listings paginate (numbered pages or "load more", as configured by the site).

  • Lesson detail (/listings/[slug]) — the full page: hero with title, rating and tutor; key details (duration, subject, level, location); the description and what's included; the list of available lesson times with each one's date, time, and remaining places; paid extras (for example printed course materials); reviews; nearby places; and similar lessons. Choosing a lesson time and number of places starts checkout.

  • Other public pages include Tutors / Become a Tutor (/become-a-host), How it works (/how-it-works), Blog (/blogs), About (/about), FAQ (/faq), Gallery (/gallery), and Contact (/contact).

Booking & checkout

  1. Pick a lesson from the catalogue and open its detail page.
  2. Choose a lesson time from the tutor's available times — each shows its date, time, and how many places are left.
  3. Choose your places — the number of students (per-person booking), or book the whole lesson time as a private 1:1 lesson. You can add any paid extras here.
  4. Checkout (/booking/checkout) shows your booking summary — lesson, lesson time, places, extras, and totals. You can apply a coupon code or gift card. Pick a payment method from those the site has enabled (for example PayPal, or an offline option like bank transfer).
  5. Pay a deposit or the full amount. Choose to pay the deposit now (balance due later) or pay in full. Your place is held for the lesson time the moment your booking is created.
  6. After a successful payment you land on the confirmation page (/booking/confirmed) and in your customer dashboard; an offline (bank transfer) payment shows an "booking placed, payment pending" message until an admin confirms it.

If you aren't signed in you'll be prompted to log in or register before your booking is confirmed.

Your Customer Dashboard

Once signed in, your portal lives under /customer. The sidebar links every area below.

Dashboard

Path: /customer/dashboard

Your home base: a welcome banner, KPI cards (upcoming bookings, total spend), your next lesson times with quick links, a recent-activity feed, and recommended lessons.

Bookings

Path: /customer/bookings

Every lesson you've booked, with stats and status tabs (Upcoming / Completed / Cancelled). Each card shows the lesson, lesson time date and time, places, amount paid, and status. Search by lesson or tutor.

Booking detail

Path: /customer/bookings/[public_id]

A single booking's full breakdown — lesson and tutor, lesson time date/time, places and booking mode, extras, payment records (deposit and balance), and the cancellation option. If your lesson is cancellable, this is where you request a cancellation; the refund amount is calculated from the lesson's cancellation policy and how far ahead you cancel, and your place is released. Refunds are reviewed and approved by the site before they are paid out.

Payments

Path: /customer/payments

Your payment history with stats and status tabs; open an invoice (view/download) per payment. Deposit and balance payments are listed against their bookings.

Wishlist

Path: /customer/wishlist

Lessons you've saved for later; remove one or jump to the lesson to book it.

Reviews

Path: /customer/reviews

Reviews you've written on lessons you've attended, with the ability to edit them where allowed.

Communication

Page Path Purpose
Messages /customer/messages Chat with your tutors; threads update live, unread counts
Notifications /customer/notifications Your booking and account notifications
Support /customer/support Open and track support tickets

Account Settings

Path: /customer/settings

Manage your profile (name, phone, avatar, date of birth, bio), saved addresses, password (with a strength meter — 8+ chars, uppercase, number, special character), and notification preferences.

Managing a Booking

Everything about a placed booking happens from Bookings → booking detail (/customer/bookings/[public_id]).

  • View your lesson time — the confirmed date, time, place, and booking mode (per-person or private), plus the tutor and location.
  • Pay a balance — if you paid a deposit, settle the remaining amount from the booking when it's due.
  • Add-ons — any paid extras you selected (e.g. printed course materials) are itemised on the booking.
  • Cancel & refund — request a cancellation where the lesson's policy allows it. The refund is computed from the policy tier (flexible / moderate / firm / strict / non-refundable) and your lead time; your place is released back to the lesson time, and the refund goes to the site's approval queue before it is paid. You'll be notified by email (and WhatsApp/SMS where enabled) at each step.
  • Message the tutor — reach the tutor directly about your upcoming lesson.
  • Review — after you've attended, leave a rating and review from the booking or from Reviews.

A tutor may occasionally need to cancel a lesson time; if that happens your place is released and a refund is issued per policy, and you're notified.
